Who we are
Extensive market research shows that when people see America's spending priorities, they conclude that the federal budget does not reflect their values -- and they want the budget changed.
The Priorities New Hampshire campaign harnesses the respected voices of business, military, religious and political leaders; creative marketing; professional public relations; and grassroots advocacy to show NH citizens how their federal tax dollars are spent and to give them the tools to demand sensible spending priorities.
Our campaign is led by three professionals steeped in NH issues and politics. Campaign Director Steve Varnum is the former Policy Director of the Children's Alliance of NH and, in his previous work life, an award-winning journalist with the Concord Monitor. Grassroots Director Melissa Bernardin was Campaign Organizer at Clean Water Action. Field Director Olivia Zink is among NH's leading water activists.
PrioritiesNH is a project of Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities (BLSP), a 501c3 nonpartisan, non-profit organization of 700 senior business executives founded in 1996 by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and led by an eight-person Board of Directors.
As a national organization committed to peace and security, BLSP works to align the United States government's spending with taxpayers' priorities. Its innovative marketing empowers the public to compel the shifting of a portion of Pentagon funding to vital social needs such as healthcare and education.
BLSP's recommendations regarding Pentagon waste are informed by a Military Advisory Board comprising distinguished retired admirals, generals and military authorities.
Both of these entities are managed by a team with expertise in campaign management, marketing, online activism, public relations, paid advertising, membership development and fundraising.
